Tomorrow night sees Brentford’s debut in the Premier League, and our first top-flight fixture for 74 years. It’s an incredibly exciting time for Bees fans, and the Brentford Community Stadium will be buzzing (pun definitely intended).
As well as urging all Bees present to give the lads full backing both before the game and for the 90+ minutes (we’re sure you all will) we want to stress again our opposition to racism and all forms of discrimination, and our commitment to diversity & inclusivity.
Sadly there is still racism and discrimination within football, particularly on social media. Our own Ivan Toney has spoken about the racist abuse he has received, and we believe it is really important that fans show that we are behind him and others who receive similar abuse.
Tomorrow we welcome Arsenal to our corner of West London. One of their standout players is Bukayo Saka, a young man who was recently racially abused simply because he missed a penalty. It was good to hear that even Spurs fans gave him a warm reception the other day, and it would be good if us Bees can show class and do likewise. Then get on with backing our boys!
We recently instigated a collaboration with some of our fellow supporter groups to demonstrate our collective stance on this issue, and have been working with the Club to have a presence in the Brentford Community stadium which reflects this. You will see the results at the back of the North, West and East Stands from tomorrow.
Racism & discrimination is unacceptable any time and any place – with millions watching tomorrow let’s all make this clear. Come on you Bees!
