During the pandemic, BIAS has been working with the Football Supporters Association (FSA) along with other groups as part of its mental health working group. This has culminated in the FSA launching #TerraceTalk – a supporter-led mental health initiative.
#TerraceTalk will feature a series of events across 2021 which will include training for staff and volunteers, panel discussions and the publication of shared resources.
The aim of the campaign is to encourage open and honest conversations about mental health and encourage supporters to seek out mental health support services when they need to. A central theme of #TerraceTalk is to also recognise the value that social aspects of the match day routine provide to fans up and down the country, and the importance of the connections that football can provide.
The pandemic, and lack of in-person football, has had a serious impact on many fans’ mental health. Mental health is important to us all, and especially at a time when so many of the ways we look after ourselves are not available to us, we need to talk and support one another.
For Mental Health Awareness week, Gemma Teale from BIAS and Bik Singh from Blues4all gave their thoughts on mental health and football and why this is such an important issue. You can watch the full video here
BIAS is an affiliate member of the FSA and we will continue to do all we can to improve the experience of being a fan of Brentford Football Club and the wider football supporter community.
