Brentford faced AFC Phoniex in the Capital Women’s Intermediate Cup.
We participated in a one minutes silence in memory of Dave Harding (Caroline Brooks) father, Remembrance Sunday, for Paris and the rest of the world.
After a 2 week wait to play again following bad weather conditions Brentford took on AFC Phoenix. Last time the 2 teams met, the score finished 4-1 in favour of Phoenix.
Brentford started very bright making sure Phoenix didn’t have a chance to settle. The first chance fell to Sara Ezzahiri wriggled through 2 challenges before shooting from an angle. The shot unfortunately didn’t test the goalkeeper.
Brentford were playing some fluid football with good transitions through the thirds.
Phoenix found their way into the game and had a few chances of their own but found Becky in great form.
Sonyia was then next to try her luck with her left foot on the volley after being put in on goal by Sara Ezzahiri, her volley again not testing the goalkeeper.
Half time came with the game still goalless.
Brentford came out for the second half determined to win the game and had a few chances early on from Hodo Mohamed and Sonyia Jones. As the game stretched on into the 70th minute, Brentford looked more and more comfortable with Phoenix not registering a goal on target, unfortunately a lapse in defence allowed Phoenix a throw on near the half way line and with 2 passes saw a shot from the left winger nestle Into the far corner.
Brentford pushed and pushed to equalise and unfortunately we’re caught on the counter attack which Phoenix calmly put away.
