Brentford succumbed to a 5-1 defeat away to Hemel Hempstead at Vauxhall Road in a match that now sees the Bees without a win in eight league games.

It was the home side who opened the scoring after 14 minutes when an unchallenged ball in the middle of the pitch fell to Hempstead before a through ball was latched onto and riffled into the top corner. 1-0.

Hemel Hempstead quickly doubled the lead inside 18 minutes when a corner landed at the head of the Hempstead player whose close range attempt beat Sarah Collins in goal. 2-0

The first half got worse for Brentford when Hemel added to the scoreline thanks to an excellent long range strike that was parried by Collins into the net. 3-0

Brentford however came close before half time to claw a goal back with a couple of good chances. The first fell to Sara Ezzahiri who knocked the ball around the keeper but saw her shot fall the wrong side of the post from 30 yards out. The second chance fell to Lisa Grant who latched onto Sonia Jones clever flick on but was denied by a good save from the Hemel keeper.

A galvanised Brentford entered the second half with an element of passion that had been missing in the first half. Jones missed an excellent chance when Ezzahiri squared the ball into the forwards stride but saw her shot go narrowly wide.

After a dominant period for the Bees, it was Grant who clawed one back. Amber Langston-Lloyd’s headed clearance from a corner found Sophie Lee whose neat link up play with Ezzahiri allowed the Spanish forward to see her attempt saved but was followed up cooly by Grant to make it 3-1.

With Brentford in the ascendancy it was the home side who added to their lead when a cross flukily looped its way over Collins head and into the net. 4-1.

Brentford continued to push in search of a second goal and were unlucky not to add to their tally but for a number of wasted efforts from Jones and Ezzahiri.

Hempstead completed the rout late on when another long range effort found the top corner to make it 5-1.
