Match Report: Brentford Ladies vs AFC Phoenix Ladies (GLWFL Premier)

Brentford were in high spirits going into the game, they had a good weeks training with a special guest Darius Charles from Burton FC coming down to give them a training session.

The game kicked off shortly after 1 and with Darius looking on seemed to give the team a lift. Brentford were fast out the blocks, first to every ball putting the opposition under pressure from the off.

Sara EZZAHIRI was a constant menace to the oppositions back four, harrying, tossing and turning, not giving them a minutes piece.

The pressure finally paid off when Sara EZZAHIRI yet again picked up the ball wide of the 18 yard box, after dribbling in and out of 2 players she was upended in the penalty area. A penalty was awarded which was calmly put away by Mollie HOLMES, her third of the season.

Brentford pushed and pushed for a second realising that they had found an attacking formula that worked.

Shot after shot went by but unfortunately missing the target. The opposition started to get a foot hold in the game creating a few opportunities of their own, but came up against Rebecca COLLINS who was in good form for Brentford.

With half term looming it seemed as if Brentford would end the half with a goal to the good. It wasn’t to be, a cross from the left side found its way to the back post where the Phoenix striker was able to slot home from close range.

Half time came and went with both teams able to get points across.

The second half was underway with Brentford still creating half chances, but as legs started to tire Phoenix began to dominate.

Amanda picked up an injury, on came Charlotte TANNER the Brentford Club captain. With the back four under immense pressure Phoenix took the lead with a through ball that put their striker in on goal to slot home.
Play continued with Brentford still creating opportunities, Aisha LUTUMBA was put through 1 on 1 with goal keeper which the keeper saved.

Again with Brentford not taking their chances, Phoenix scored from a corner making it 1-3. Heads started to drop for Brentford now with not long to play, Phoenix still had time for one more goal with the striker again being put through 1 on 1 with the keeper and after Becky COLLINS saving the first attempt, she scored from the rebound.

Final score 1-4.
