Spurs Ladies 4 Brentford WFC 2 GLWFL Premier Division

Brentford made the trip to Tottenham’s pitch with the incentive of knowing a win would move them level on points with Spurs.

An early kick off showed in Brentford’s build up play, sluggish, passive and took far too long to impose themselves on the game. Nevertheless after a barrage of pressure, Brentford found their way and created a number of great chances which should have punished Tottenham. Unfortunately seeing chances missed by Lisa GRANT from 10 yards out and Sara EZZAHIRI from 15 yards out just gave Tottenham the impetus to push on.

Tottenham broke the deadlock after a soft shot slipped through Sarah’s (COLLINS) fingers and Into the net. Making it 1-0.

Brentford struck straight back with a 35 yard half volley which flew in the net from Aisha LUTUMBA. Making the score line equal 1-1.

Game on it seemed with both teams pushing hard for the goal to put their team ahead. Geraldine BURGESS was brought on for Hodo MOHAMED after 30 mins and within seconds Geraldine BURGESS was running through on goal only to see her shot tamely struck into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Alia HAGGAG then had a shot from 30 yards which was hit with some venom go just wide before Sara shot again with a shot that seemed destined for the top corner but for a wonder save by the home goalkeeper.

With more chances squandered, a long ball upfield caught Priscilla CAMUIMBA on her heels and put the Tottenham striker through on goal to make it 2-1.

Half time came and went with Brentford hopeful of getting back into the game.

Sasha TREADAWAY was brought on for Priscilla CAMUIMBA, Neethu HARIDAS was brought on for Aisha LUTUMBA.

Brentford pushed in search of the equaliser and it seemed destined when Sara EZZAHIRI ran onto a through ball, she rounded the goalkeeper and with the open goal in sight, she tripped over the ball. She immediately jumped up rounded the goalkeeper again and shot which hit the post with the Tottenham defenders trying to dive in the way of the shot, the rebound fell kindly to Geraldine BURGESS who had the ball at her feet 5 yards out with an open goal at her mercy. She hit the ball over the bar, seemed like it wasn’t going to be Brentford’s day.

Minutes after Tottenham crossed from the right which saw the striker tap home to make it 3-1. Hodo was brought back on in place of Geraldine BURGESS but again a cross from the right saw the same striker score again to make it 4-1.

Hodo MOHAMED was put through by Alia HAGGAG and as she rounded the keeper, she was quite brutally taken out by the goalkeeper. Hodo MOHAMED was quite badly hurt in the process, Mollie HOLMES stepped up and took the penalty calmly slotting home to make it 4-2.
