Let me take you back to last weekend where Brentford Womens had a very merry weekend away to Newquay. Even though there may have been a few hangovers, rain, wind and some sun we won the Newquay 6 ‘s tournament beating last year’s winners Maidstone. We all had a fun weekend away and we have to go back next year now to fight for our trophy.

Thursdays training practice saw a good turn out ahead of our last game of the season. Beginning with an agility warm up then we then progressed it into a practice working on attacking play from wide areas, an area we realy wanted to work on before the big match. We then finished with small sided games. We were all looking forward to our last game of the season; The John Greenacre Memorial Trophy Final against Watford Development.

Sunday arrived with the sun shining bright, it was our day I could feel it! With a tougher start than expected, we went 1-0 down after ten minutes. Then through the first half we tried to pick ourselves up but it just wasn’t happening. Half time team talk was simple… We didn’t have tomorrow we didn’t have next weekend we had 45 mins to change the game….and that is what we did scoring two goals with 10 minutes till the end. Into the second half we had to pick it up. Super sub Dana Johnson came on and scored both the goals at put us ahead 2-1. With conditions of hot weather really starting to take its toll on the team we managed to hold on until the final whistle blew. We had done it we had won the cup!!!

Some highlights over this season;

Caroline Brooks; “Bear’s penalty against Hampstead!!”

Vicky James (Bear); “My personal highlight is when I got that last minute screamer against AFC Pheonix to win the league”

William Boye; “QPR final, the team performance was faultless”

My season highlight was our 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur Development in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy with an overall solid performance as a team and by a new back four.

I would just like to thank everyone who has been in contact/supported Brentford Womens FC this season, especially to the supporters for cheering us on. I am so grateful to be part of a great team that can achieve so much. We have shown this season that we can win trophies and that we have a team filled with great characters. I cannot wait to see what is round the corner for next season, it’s going to be exciting.
