What a week for Brentford Womens FC!

Charlotte Tanner reflects on a Cup victory and a friendly in her latest Brentford WFC blog.

Instead of a fun, intense training session we played a friendly against Old Actonions first team who play in the South East Combination Division, three leagues above us! We had a great turnout with trialists getting their opportunity to impress out on the field. We started with a bang going 3-2 up at half time…..

Unfortunately we lost the game 5-4, conceding two in the last 15 minutes, with a few contentious offside decisions.

On Sunday we played Colne Valley, division one title winners last season. We played them in the cup last year and won 4-3, we had to win again! With the sun shining we were ready for a fight.

We had a minutes silence before the match for a local lady who I knew very well, Jenny Catcherside, who died on Friday. Of course to remember those who also died in tragic Hillsborough disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families.

We started the game well and led after a great volley by Goody. The next goal was important to get ahead of the game. We did, our skipper Bear scored from a corner that she took. With 3 subs made…Lavana made it 3-0 and the final whistle blew! We are through to the Semi Final alongside Tottenham Development, Watford Development and Hampstead.

A quick thank you for Colne Valley, Brentford Women’s and the referee for the minutes silence to go ahead, it means a lot.
