Brentford Ladies extended their lead at the top of the league but beating AFC Phoenix in a top of the table clash at Clapham Common Playing Fields on Sunday 16th March 2014.
Ash Cheatley opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game after surging through the defense, beating three players and smashing the ball into the net.
Brentford dominated the first half with Lavana and Laura Huse calling the goalkeeping into action with good efforts on target. Latoya Bailey went close also with her strike just going wide but the half was overshadowed with an injury to Lisa Grant and the oppositions midfielder who left the pitch with the Ambulance after both players clashed heads.
Second half appeared and it was AFC Phoenix who were by far the superior side. They won a penalty early on and it was five minutes till the end when Vicky James found her shooting boots just like she did in the final last year against the same side and struck from 30 yards, lobbing the goalkeeper and giving Brentford the win.
The Bees certainly rode their luck in the second half and an element of luck was certainly on their side not to have lost the game however after the first half they should have been three or four goals up.
The Bees gave their league title aspirations a great push after this win and next week look to build on this.
