AFC Phoenix 2 Brentford 0
Brentford were informed that after their last game last week against Phoenix, that they would have to be better, as Phoenix were under pressure for lots of spells in the game.
The same team lined up against this week all with a point to prove to themselves as well as Phoenix. The game started fast and with Brentford doing all the probing early on taking full advantage of the wind they had.
Attack after attack Brentford put together with Phoenix not having an answer to it. All that was missing was that all important bit of quality at the end of each attack.
Sonyia went through one-on-one with the goalie at an angle put shot wide, then Ambers corner whistled past the six yard box with just waiting for someone to put their toe on it. Up stepped Sara from a short corner who neatly jinxed past one defender before curling a shot far post which shaved the post.
Half time came with the team talk all about carrying on with the same tempo but being aware that the wind was now against them.
Brentford came out with the same intensity, the wind meant they couldn’t put together as many attacks but we’re still more than on top with Phoenix not creating a single attack.
75 mins played and Hodo went through with only the goalie to beat but shot straight at her. Another chance went begging when Sonyia went through on goal again after great play from the striker but hit the post.
With 85 mins played, it seemed like it was going to be a goalless draw until a minute later a lapse of concentration between 2 Brentford players which saw the striker put through on goal and With their first attack shot past Becky in the Brentford goal.
With the Brentford team pushing to get an equaliser in the last few seconds a long clearance from Phoenix created panic in the Brentford back line which saw the same striker pounce to score again.
