Charlotte Tanner’s Brentford WFC Blog

Charlotte Tanner keeps us all up to date with the latest Brentford WFC blog, reflecting on the weeks training and Sundays fine win that saw the Bees climb to the top of the league.

Hello Everyone,

After an abysmal trek to Middlesbrough yesterday I’m glad my Sunday was a better day as a football spectator.

Brentford Ladies being put through their paces

Brentford Ladies being put through their paces

Last Wednesday’s training was about stamina within the game and being able to keep going within those last 10 minutes when your muscles are aching and fatigued.

As well as keeping on your toes, for the game to stay alive with the accurate paces. Thursday we looked at speed and ability of attacking play. Deceiving defenders and changing pace to run at the goal and score. Everyone worked hard and the tempo of training this week was great.

Brentford Ladies squad vs Regents Park Rangers

On Sunday the ladies took on Regents Park at home (Lampton School, Hounslow). Starting eleven was; Caroline Brooks (GK), Manuela Naptra, Lauren Restel, Lisa Grant, Sophie Lee, Claire Richardson, Vicky James, Tia Prior, Lucy E, Ashley Cheatley and Dana Richardson. On the bench was Lucy Gibson.

With the referee running over half an hour late, we started the game without him, and it started well. Passing the ball and creating space, the defence were caught out on a couple of occasions throughout the game with strikers playing through them but the Bees managed to recover and play the ball out again.

Our first goal came from Lucy Easton who cut in across the defence to hook her right foot through the ball and lob the keeper. 1-0 to the Bees!! After about 10 minutes of trying to get the ball through again the ball was passed into space between the defenders for Ashley Cheatley to whip in with her right foot.

We kept the ball well using the midfield to spread the ball wide as often as possible. The attack was on again and Goody’s quick feet was trying to find the goal. Nobody closed her down, allowing her to shoot from outside the box and lob the keeper. Boom 3-0 at half time!!

Our manager made a change at half time which saw Lucy Easton come off for Lucy Gibson.

The second half Regents Park came alive, getting players forward and attacking the box, however we held our own to not allow them through.

Ashley Cheatley was set free again on the ball in the box, twisting and turning, eventually turning the centre back and scoring with her left foot. 4-0! Shortly after Goody found space in midfield and kept the ball close to her feet to dribble to the edge of the box where she shot outside the box again and made it 5-0. The ladies were on fire!

With ten minutes to go another sub was made Lucy Easton came back on for Dana on right wing. Lucy picked up the ball twisting through a few players down the wing. She nutmegged the right back and ran round her then put a lovely cross into the box, where Ashley Cheatley headed it into the back of the net. 6-0!! Perfect hatrick for the top goal scorer in the league, 7 goals in 4 games, up there with Diego Costa ey Ash!!

That wasn’t the end though the spectators saw Goody and Ashley hit the cross bar. Caroline Brooks made a great save and Sophie Lee cleared it off the line to keep a clean sheet!

Well worked today Ladies a deserved win!!

A good day in the office for Brentford Ladies with a great result. Looking forward to the week ahead too see what it holds.
