Charlotte Tanner’s Brentford WFC Blog
Charlotte Tanner keeps us up to date with what is going on with Brentford WFC in her latest blog.
After a great win at the weekend, the ladies were looking forward to the week ahead with a top of the league game in site.
For the second week running attendance at training was excellent and the theme was set pieces. Practicing corners and free kicks, how to position yourself and making runs to attack the ball when it comes into the box. Knowing that we were playing the only competition for the league title in AFC Phoenix.
With the sun shining we all made the familiar route to Clapham Common. With a late kick off and our goal keeper still in traffic we went one nil up in the first five minutes.
Ashley Cheatley ran through the defence to put us in the lead. Just from time Lisa Grant went to header the ball when their centre midfield who had previously been shot to the ground by a powerful ball in the face, clashed heads. Thankfully both parties were not seriously injured just an egg sized bump on Lisa’s head.
After a 40 minute break we went straight into the second half, where AFC Phoenix upped their game. AFC Phoenix fought hard and we gave away a penalty, one, one with 10 minutes to go. We had to dig a little deeper.
Then after a few attempts our skipper Victoria James, just like she did against them in the final last year, shot from 30 yards to lob the keeper, it was in!!!
Our 100th goal of the season and it was a great one, just when we needed it too! We won 2-1!!!
Stats are looking good and things are getting exciting; with four league games to go, two home, two away; 100 goals scored this season with a lead at the top of 11 points. Bring the end of the season!!
Bees you later
